Seth Godin published the following list recently
- Strangers are customers to be, but not yet
- Critics are those that would speak ill of you, or need to be converted
- Friends are those that might have given permission, or even buy now and then
- Fans are members of your tribe, supporters and insiders
And it reminded me of off-line small business advertisers who spend all their time trying to advertise to strangers.
These advertisers have no way of connecting with their fans.
They cannot use their supporters to spread the word.
They cannot ask their supporters to help them.
They don’t spend time and money on getting their fans back.
No. They waste all their advertising bucks trying to connect to strangers.
What they don’t know is that their support base, their fans know these strangers better.
